Success Story: An Entrepreneur's Cross-Cultural Love

By Jonathan, 44, Chicago & Wendy, 40, Chengdu

Jonathan: “As a business owner, my days are packed with meetings, client calls, and constant problem-solving. Running an IT consulting firm leaves little time for personal life, and traditional dating apps only made things worse  endless chatting, casual flings, nothing serious. I didn’t want distraction. I wanted a partner who could understand my lifestyle, but also bring balance into it.”

Wendy: “My life wasn’t so different. As a marketing director at an international company, I had long hours and high pressure. But even with a demanding job, I wanted more than just work. I wanted someone who valued both ambition and family. When WUMA introduced me to Jonathan, I immediately felt that he understood my world.”

From the first call, Jonathan was struck by Wendy’s intelligence and independence. “She wasn’t looking for someone to take care of her,” he says. “She wanted a partner to share life with. That was exactly what I needed.” Over months of calls, they discovered a rhythm  serious discussions about business, but also lighthearted chats that left them laughing.

They finally met in Singapore, where Jonathan was traveling for work. “I left the office early to meet her at the airport,” he recalls. “She walked toward me in jeans and a T-shirt with the brightest smile. In that moment, I knew this wasn’t just an online connection  it was real.”

Together, they explored the city. At Gardens by the Bay, Wendy was thrilled by the tropical plants, pointing them out with childlike excitement. “I saw a different side of myself with her,” Jonathan says. “I realized how long it had been since I felt that relaxed and happy.”

Wendy: “What I admire most about Jonathan is his drive. But I also like reminding him to slow down. Sometimes I send him photos of meals I cook on weekends, just to tell him: don’t forget to rest.”

Now, they’re planning a future together. Jonathan is learning basic Chinese, while Wendy is picking up phrases in his hometown dialect. They plan to buy and renovate an apartment in Chicago next year.

“We’re two people with busy lives,” they say, “but together, we found balance. WUMA didn’t just save us time  it gave us the guidance to cross cultures and the chance to build a shared vision for the future.”
